Social Media Analysis
TRIDS (Tracking Real Time Intelligence in Data Streams; Lanfranchi, 2012*) is a platform which gathers, stores and allows browsing of, data shared on existing social media platforms. TRIDS allows users to conduct focused real-time data exploration and interrogation. The social media channels currently covered by TRIDS are Facebook, Flickr and Twitter as well as any website or blog that provides RSS feeds (e.g. BBC, Reuters, etc.).
TRIDS is able to gather social media data in real-time given keywords or hashtags as input. The retrieved data is then stored and processed to enrich it with metadata that is not contained in the original data, such as sentiment, geolocation, etc. Metadata is used to present the information to the users, providing easy textual and visual filters to facilitate the navigation of the very large-scale information space.
